Vendors neglecting web threat protection

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

Security vendors are focusing too heavily on email security threats and failing to circumvent the rising number of web-based exploits seen in the wild, it has been claimed.

According to vnunet.com, a new report has shown that one in four firms have experienced a web-based attack which knocked out servers, compromised data security or destabilized online transactions.

Peter Watkins, an analyst involved with the report, explained: "Around 85 percent of malware comes in via the web and businesses have been slow to react to this."

Meanwhile, a separate study has shown that the number of web exploits is continuing to grow rapidly, with data for October illustrating that more web-based malware was documented than during any other month this year.

Elsewhere, web security experts have recently warned that Monday November 24th may be the busiest time for the spread of viruses and malware.

PC Tools has warned that transmissions volumes may spike as a result of increased online sales in the run up to Christmas.ADNFCR-1765-ID-18884181-ADNFCR
